Stellenbosch may be known for its world-class wines, but beyond the tasting rooms lies a playground for outdoor enthusiasts. With over 1,000 kilometres of trails winding through vineyards, forests and mountain terrain, this region invites you to explore it differently.

Whether you’re chasing a sunrise run, tackling technical singletrack on your mountain bike, or enjoying a scenic walk between vineyards, these wine farms offer access to some of the best trails in the Cape.

Muratie Wine Estate

Muratie is a favourite among trail lovers, offering access to the renowned Simonsberg trail system. Mountain bikers can enjoy flowing singletracks suited to both beginners and experienced riders, while trail runners will find forest routes with incredible views.

Hikers can explore a 3.5km circular route featuring over 220 hand-built steps leading to the scenic Gilloolys viewpoint. Permits are required, and special sunset hikes take place monthly.

Waterford Estate

The Porcupine Trail Wine Walk offers a uniquely Stellenbosch experience, combining nature, storytelling and wine. This guided walk winds through vineyards and indigenous fynbos, with your guide sharing insights into the estate’s biodiversity and winemaking philosophy.
