1. Golfing in Stellenbosch

Any golf fans reading this? Stellenbosch has some amazing golf courses to choose from, including Devonvale Golf Course, De Zalze Golf Course, and Stellenbosch Golf Club.

Stellenbosch Golf Club celebrated its centenary in 2004. This is the 4th oldest Golf Club in South Africa. Situated at the foot of the majestic Helderberg mountains on the outskirts of Stellenbosch.

The De Zalze Golf Course is situated within the De Zalze Winelands Golf Estate. The course offers a memorable Winelands golf experience for golfers of all skill levels.

2. Jan Marais Nature Reserve

We sometimes forget about all the beautiful hidden gems we have right at our doorstep and The Jan Marais Nature Reserve is one of them. Just outside of the centre of town it is the perfect place to stay active this summer. Explore the landscapes and natureal beauty of Stellenbosch. Vies of the stunning mountain ranges around Stellenbosch, perfectly framed will inspire you to explore even more. Jan Marais Nature Reserve located on the eastern side of the Stellenbosch university campus has hiking, biking and walking trails criss-crossing through the park.

Established in 1919 and covers 23 hectares of gorgeous South African landscapes in the heart of Stellenbosch. This area is also the perfect place for all photography lovers to take photos of these amazing views, fauna and flora. Ideal for bird watching with many different kinds of species, big and small, hiding away in the trees.

Jan Marais Nature Reserve is a great place to have picnics with the family and a kiosk is available for those who want a light refreshment snack.This is the perfect spot to get out of the busy town and to catch up on your hiking, or simply enjoying a picnic with the family.

3. Jonkershoek Nature Reserve

The Jonkershoek Nature Reserve is home to the magnificent Jonkershoek mountain ranges and Jonkershoek Valley. The Nature Reserve is 9km from Stellenbosch, so if you live in Stellenbosch, a run in the morning is a must. The mountains are perfect for hikers, runners and mountain bikers. The reserve is about 9 800 hectares and the area are also rich in animal and plant life, with over 1100 plant species and a variety of small mammals, birds and reptiles.

The Reserve offers different hiking and walking trails for you to choose from. There are various short walks available on the reserve. The more challenging hikes ranging between 5.3km and 18km. On your walks you will find plenty of waterfalls and pools where you can cool yourself of as well. Or maybe just your feet.

Have a mountain bike? No problem, they offer challenging routes over mountainous terrain, with spectacular scenery. Just remember there is an extra cost involved for mountain biking. This is a wonderful place to do some filming and bettering your photograph skills as well. Who can say no to all of this nature surrounding you.

4. Stellenbosch Botanical Garden

Another Stellenbosch hidden gem. If you have not been here, you are missing out. Beautiful views and learning about nature, all in one go. The Botanical Garden is located in the historical center of Stellenbosch and is the oldest university botanical garden in South Africa. The Garden is home to enormous diversity of plants, both indigenous to South Africa and exotic. A part of this stunning flora, you can also enjoy a cup of coffee or light lunch at their restaurant, Katjiepiering.

A cost of R10 gets you into the garden.
