In recent weeks South Africa has experienced an uproar in protests following the presidential address of Cyril Ramaphosa under Alert level 3 lockdown regulations. Whereby the sale and distribution of alcohol have been prohibited—prompting the loss of jobs and lively hoods nationwide.

Amid many protests, the #JobsSaveLives campaign that took place last week has garnered the most traction as tens of thousands of South Africans have banned together, in unity, with the intent of saving livelihoods throughout the country.

Unfortunately, many in our Stellenbosch community are feeling these hits to the fullest extent.

In light of the situation, we as Stellenbosch, a proud community, are hoping to do our part by supporting our local producers as we step outside and pack the ultimate picnic basket. In an attempt to make a day of it, unwind, and show love to our locals. It’s a win-win for all of us.

Here’s how you can help:

-Joostenberg Deli

Pop into the online store at Joostenberg Deli and uncover a bounty of artisanal produce. Most of which are complementary to our local suppliers, from scrumptious home-cooked meals to ice creams, desserts, an array of dips, salad dressings and much more.

For cheesy endeavours, you don’t get any better than the award-winning Healy’s at Waterkloof Wine Estate where you’ll discover an array of cheese induced flavours.

-Blue crane

For a savoury cup of warmth, check out the coffee and goodies available the next time you delve into the Blue Crane at 141 Dorp Street.

-Vadas Smokehouse & Bakery.

Discover the most exquisite cuisine, built around locally-sourced, seasonal fresh produce, upon arrival at Vadas Smokehouse & Bakery. The family restaurant that invites you into a world of mouth-watering menus at Spier Wine Farm R310.

-Ina-Marie’s Local Spens

Top up your picnic baskets with the most delectable home-made jams the next time you visit Ina-Marie’s store at 20 Drostdy Street. A store that carries it’s own uniquely heart-warming story through supporting locals.

For some of the freshest berries and jams to top off a classic picnic, prepare to relish in the savoury goodies at Hillcrest. You’ll find them at R310 Banhoek Valley.

-De Warenmarkt

In the heart of Stellenbosch’s cultural district, you’ll find De Warenmarkt. With a Terbodore coffee counter and Ryan Boon Butchery, it’ll top off your picnic basket in the superb taste of coffee, droewors, biltong and so much more. Shop online or visit them at 20 Ryneveld St.
