Got the kids racing around the house? If you’re looking to escape out into some fresh air and let the kids burn off some of that energy, then make the journey to our warmhearted town. You’ll find a variety of family-friendly spots, giving you and the little ones a holiday or day trip you’ll remember for all the best reasons!
Here are just a handful of our favourite kid friendly spots in Stellenbosch:

Blaauwklippen
Swing by and check out Blaauwklippens bike park and pump track during the school holidays There are picnic benches for you to bring your laptop and catch an hour or two of work or finally finish that novel you’ve been enjoying while your children enjoy the ramps and berms and have a hot chocolate. R85 per kid or rider for the day.
Zorgvliet
With ample space for you to stetch out in the sunshine and enjoy a glass of Zorgvliet’s finest, you’ll be happy whiling away a few hours here – as will the kids. Soak up the fresh air of the Banghoek Valley while relaxing on a picnic blanket under the shade of the Oak trees. You can bring your own blanket or choose a table. There are a variety of picnic baskets to choose from and for the kids, a sand pit and jungle gym.

Knorhoek Wine Farm
Nestled conveniently on the R44 wine farm route, think of Knorhoek as your family’s playground. Over two hundred hectares of working wine farmland are yours for rambling, exploring and relaxing! Enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner and let the young ones splash around in the water while you sit back and relax with a glass of MCC, wine or a cappuccino.
Keen for activity? Choose from four scenic trails for hiking, trail running, mountain biking and ambling with the family.
Warwick Wine Estate
Bring the whole family for a weekend’s fun in the sun! Think sprawling picnics, wine safaris, giant jenga and more when you visit Warwick
The vineyard safaris are a hit for good reason. Hop on an open top safari vehicle and tour the ‘big five’ vineyards with drinks and snacks to enjoy (non-alcoholic drinks and artisanal ice-cream for the under 18s).

Babylonstoren
Babylonstoren with kids is a one stop wonder of fun and delight. With 8 hectares of gardens, you have ample space to roam and discover the incredible diversity of flora and fauna, fruit, vegetables and herbs and different gardens that make up the estate. Pop in at the Greenhouse Restaurant for light meals (no bookings required), a sweet treat (the scones are popular) or some caffeine for the adults and then carry on exploring.
Right next to Babel and the hotel reception, you’ll find a watery wonderland, guaranteed to delight young and old. The new splash spiral, named Old Bullfrog, features lizards and amphibians and a big bullfrog at its centre, spouting water and providing endless fun for young ones.
Don’t leave without feeding the beloved donkeys opposite the Farm shop or help collect eggs and harvest fruit and vegetables. Children are even welcome to help the bakers knead and bake the delicious farm breads!

Spier Wine Farm
Spier is a family favourite for a reason. There are grape juice tastings for the young ‘uns to enjoy while the adults sample the estate’s wines, bird farms and gardens to explore and more.
All little ones are VIPs at Spier, whether you’re staying over or not. If you’re a hotel guest, the Clubhouse gives you time to relax while keeping the kids safely entertained. If you’re popping in for the day or lunch, the estate has you covered as well. Visit Eagle Encounters, the on-site bird rehabilitation site, rent a kiddie’s bike to explore the estate, pop in at the Elemental Garden and relax with a wine tasting and grape juice tasting overlooking the dam.

Hazendal
From the magical, edutainment centre Wonderdal to the Kleine Hazen adventure putting park and plenty of open air spaces and lush lawns to explore, Hazendal invites you to bring the kids!

Vredenheim
Book a scenic game drive at Vredenheim Big Cat Park and keep your eyes peeled for an array of wildlife, including brown lion, white lion, black leopard, African leopard, Bengal tiger, golden and blue wildebeest, zebra, and more. There’s also an animal farm where the children can get to know the animals a bit better, followed by lots of fun playing on the bike track, jungle gym, and in the sandpit.

Middelvlei
Give the kids an authentic farm-style adventure as part of your family getaway in Stellenbosch with a visit to Middelvlei. The estate is family-owned and family-centred! Mom and dad can kick back and relax as the children feed the friendly farm animals, play tag on the expansive, lush lawns, spend some time in the massive sand pit, braai some fluffy marshmallows over the fire, and get involved in the tasting experiences, too. Middelvlei offers a classic wine tasting of 4 silky wines at just R60 per person and a juice tasting for the youngsters. Parents can opt to savour the vineyard creations on the veranda to take in the mountain views and keep an eye on the kiddies.

Skilpadvlei
Skilpadvlei’s relaxed restaurant deck looks out over Stellenbosch’s rolling hills and sun-kissed vineyards. Grab a table and unwind as your brood scampers off to the outside play-area. Their menu includes traditional South African favourites such as Lamb curry, tripe and flame-grilled Pork ribs, while a simple kid’s menu will keep even the fussiest tot happy!
If the playground isn’t enough let the juniors enjoy a delicious kiddie pairing, while mom and dad enjoy a glass of wine.

Koelenhof
