The restaurant industry has been one of the hardest hit by the COVID-19 imposed shutdown. Typical of the warm heart of Stellenbosch, the wine farms (who have faced their own challenges during South Africa’s dry lockdown) came out to help. The Jordan Restaurant Drive remains one of our favourite ‘proudly Stellenbosch’ moments.

Local winter clothing drive becomes a national show of support for restaurants
Every year, for the past 12 years, Jordan Wine Estate has run a winter charity drive – encouraging people to clear out their cupboards and donate warm clothing, blankets, and towels to those in need. For every kilogram of clothing brought into the tasting room at Jordan Wine Estate, Jordan gave away a bottle of wine as a thank you!
Last year, a staggering 15 tonnes of clothing was collected – meaning Jordan gifted 15 000 bottles of wine.
This year, Jordan was determined to do something for the restaurant industry and the Jordan Restaurant Drive was born.
Success in simplicity – as other wine farms hop on board
The Jordan Restaurant Drive gives people the chance to support their favourite local restaurant during this difficult time.
Simply purchase an R600 voucher from a participating restaurant and receive a FREE mixed pre-selected case of 6 Jordan wines – delivered straight to your door. This means you’ll help one your local restaurants weather the COVID storm, enjoy a meal once they’re able to open their doors and receive a case of Jordan wine. Win, win, win.
Even better? It is no longer simply the Jordan Restaurant Drive – a host of other wine farms, including from Durbanville and Constantia, have added their support.
In an incredible display of solidarity, the restaurant drive has sold over 4,500 vouchers to date – raising over R2.7 million for restaurants around South Africa.
In some instances, the funds have allowed restaurants to keep paying their staff, in other instances restaurants have managed to support local soup kitchens and feeding schemes.
