A fun-filled family getaway in the Winelands

Your loved ones deserve a fun-filled family getaway in Stellenbosch

Mom and dad want to sip on award-winning wine, dine in style, and savour the glorious views for which Stellenbosch is so well known – while the kids want to run free and take part in an array of outdoor activities. Here is an itinerary for a family getaway in Stellenbosch that will put a smile on everyone’s faces.

Relax and re-connect with your nearest and dearest

Chocolate, sparkling grape juice and garden walks at Spier

The moment you step into the breezy Tasting Room and the kids lay eyes on the magnificent Heath Nash chandelier hand-crafted from 334 recycled Spier wine bottles, everyone will fall in love with Spier wine farm and everything that it has to offer. Choose from a host of exceptional tasting experiences, such as:

  • The classic Spier Tasting for adults (R50 per person): This tasting comprises of three wines from the estate’s Signature and Spier 5.5% range and one from each of the three premium wine ranges, namely 21 Gables, Creative Block and Seaward.
  • The Winemaker Selection (R90 per person): This tasting features some of Spier’s premium wine ranges, as well as ‘First Stone’, its organic red wine.
  • The chocolate and wine tasting (R70 per person): Spier’s renowned chocolatier has crafted creamy chocolates to pair perfectly with specific wines from the estate’s diverse collection. While this one is mainly for mom and dad, the kids can still sample the mouth-watering chocolates!

Once your tummies are full and your thirst is quenched, be sure to take a stroll through the Elemental Play Garden and let the little ones run free and explore. The garden represents the four elements: air, fire, water and earth and features a slide cradled by mounds of earth, a tunnel to crawl through, a swing bridge, and a Charl Conradie wind sculpture. The children can also happily splash about in the water during the summer months – it has been treated to ensure its purity and their safety.

Le Pommier

Directly translated from French, ‘Le Pommier’ means ‘The Apple Tree’. The name is relevant because the estate and its restaurant were built on the same grounds that used to boast a flourishing apple orchard. Parents will adore the glorious mountain views, the classic Cape cuisine and the cosy dining atmosphere, while the kids will love exploring the colourful gardens, climbing the jungle gym, digging in the sandpits and swinging on the swings. Parents who want to keep a closer eye on the children during playtime can tuck into their Malay chicken curry, homemade chicken pie, or the potjie of the day on the grass right beside the play area.
